I sit and type a lot, and have gradually morphed into a cautionary whale regarding posture and a sedentary lifestyle. To try and remedy those conditions, I decided to try a standing desk, which seem to be all the rage. After looking around online to see what choices there were, my initial response was, “Man, those are expensive! Maybe I’ll just try and sit up straight.”
So I did nothing. Two weeks ago, I finally made the decision to pull the trigger and fork out the dough to buy one. I got too busy that day, so it didn’t happen. It wasn’t meant to be.
That night, right before I went to bed, a post popped up on my Facebook from my good friend Marty that said this:
“The past few months my partners and I have been developing this new standing desk and is now available for sale on Amazon. I use this desk in my office and keeps me up off my lazy butt.”
Cool! Go Marty!
It included a link to “Desk Doc.” It looks like this:
I gladly ordered one because it was WAAAY cheaper than the more established and popular desks. (Right now it is $225 on Amazon, where as a similar Varidesk will set you back $500, but hang on, I’m trying to wrangle a better deal for you guys. SEE BELOW.)
The desk came in 2 days. I was then forced to clean off my desk, which is no small task. I put the new desk on top of my regular desk and, viola! It works. The picture at the top of the post is my actual desk. It only took a few minutes to set up.
It comes with a anti-fatigue matt to stand on, but I still fatigue. Gonna take some time to get used to it. After a week now, I spend about half my time standing, and half my time sitting. (You just grab these handle thingies and raise and lower it to your preferred height.) I like it. I feel like I am more alert than when I am curled up in the shape of a question mark, and I know it is good for other health issues as well.
If you look closely, you can see a little groove that can hold your phone or tablet. Oddly, the shape of the groove amplifies sound, which I like. It holds my gigantor computer and still lifts and lowers pretty easily.
My review is this: It is a good, solid AFFORDABLE adjustable desk. If you are in the market, I give it 2 MMM thumbs up.
Please note: Although this read like a paid advertisement, I am not being paid for endorsing this desk. It IS a really good, affordable product, and it is produced by a good friend – and I know where he lives.
DEAL: Sorry – deal has expired.

Thanks for sharing this. I ordered mine last Saturday and had it by Monday. Took it to my office that evening and have used it for two days now. i can already tell this was a good purchase; I tend to sit for several hours straight without getting up . . . not good for anyone but especially lay 60 year old bones and joints! 🙂 Saving $$ was an added bonus!
You won’t regret it! My self-made desk is about 4 years old. Back pain is minimal, I’m more alert, and I move far more than before. I rarely sit these days and use the chair mainly for stretching. If this had been available 4 years ago, but wait, I have a desk at home that could use an overhaul…
Thanks for all of the great info and sharing this with the blog community. I appreciate the details and the picture is very helpful. It’s great to get up out of your chair and be more active at home or with a desk job. Here’s to better posture and healthier working habits ?
In my “office”, poor posture is almost required. then the “movement” consists of pushing down on the left or right foot and small changes of position (usually less than 1 inch) of the right hand. 2-3 times you might make an adjustment of 1-4 inches with the left hand. occasionally you reach up and flip a switch or push a button. Winlsow to Kayenta to St. Joes’ and back….I usually want to crawl out of my office after that trip.
I have seen that our dispatch center has gone to standing desks, it keeps the night staff from dozing off.
I don’t need a standing desk but if I did I would buy this good deal. Appreciated your review and support of a good clever friend.
